South African Wine
Wine was first produced in South Africa on 2 February 1659 by the Dutch Settlers Cape Town. Production grew steadily and by 1859 1 Million gallons of wine was exported to Britain.
In 1860 The Gladstone government singed the Cobden-Chevalier Treaty with France and as a direct result by 1865 South Africa's export had reduced to 150 000 gallons.
In the 1990's 70% of the South African grape production were either used for grape juice, table grapes, brandies and fortified wines or discarded. Today 70% of the grapes are made into wines.

New Zealand Wine
Wine making dates back to colonial times in New Zealand. In 1851 New Zealand's oldest existing vineyard was established in Hawke's Bay.
In the 1973 Britain entered The European Economic Community. This required the ending of historic trade terms for New Zealand meat and dairy products. This forced a restructure of agriculture away from protein products to wine production.
New Zealand in particular Marlborough is home to what many wine critics consider the world's best Sauvignon Blanc. Historically, Sauvignon Blanc has been used in many French wines; the most famous had been Sancerre. It is also the grape used to make Pouilly Fumé.
In 2008 New Zealand had 13,988 Hectares of Sauvignon Blanc production approximately 55% of their wine production
Australian Wine
Vine cuttings from The Cape of Good Hope (South Africa) were brought to New South Wales in 1788. This was unsuccessful however other settlers managed successfully to cultivate vines and by 1820 Australian wine was available for sale domestically. Today Australians consumes nearly 500 Million liters of wine per year.
The first Australian wine was exported in 1822. Australia rapidly became a world leader in the export of wines and is currently the fourth largest exporter with 760 million litres a year.
Between 1990 and 2004 wine exports to the USA increased from 578,000 cases 20,000,000 cases. In 2000 Australia exported more wine to the UK than France.
Australian wine and is one of the largest exporters the South Asian countries and has 17% of the Indian wine market.
