We concentrate on the aromatics – Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris and as for red wine, we focus only on Pinot Noir. To ensure consistency of quality and supply, we have entered into long-term supply contracts with selected premium vineyards across the South Island where our winemaker is directly involved in the viticultural management of these vineyards. This approach enables Sandihurst as a boutique operation to produce wine from iconic regions - Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, Pinot Noir from the Gibbston Valley in Central Otago as well as Waipara and Riesling and Pinot Gris from Waipara and Canterbury. Kirk Bray has started to build a reputation for himself on the national and international front as a winemaker of note. His Rieslings have received acclaim both nationally and internationally and the wine which started the tongues wagging was our 2006 Waipara/ Canterbury Pinot Noir which received a 4 Star award from Decanter Magazine UK as well as Silver ‘Best in Class’ at the 2008 International Wine and Spirits Competition, UK. This was followed by our 2007 Central Otago Pinot Noir which won a Gold Medal at the International Wine Challenge in the UK - something we are all very proud of. Grapes are regularly sampled (for sugar, acidity and pH) and tasted to determine the best possible harvest date. All grapes are hand harvested into small picking bins in order not to damage the fruit. Fruit is then delivered to the winery for processing without delay.
